McLaughlin
Law Offices has regularly handled a range of criminal law
services from the defense of traffic violations to the
litigation of major felony charges.
Because of the nature of my practice, the office does not handle
homicide, murder, manslaughter or criminal conspiracy cases.
Most of the criminal law practice is in the defense of
driving under the influence (DUI) cases, assaults,
trespass / prowling, harassment / stalking, drug violations,
domestic violence, thefts and shoplifting.
Juvenile cases are also taken.
Criminal
cases can sometimes be handled on a flat fee basis.
This is especially common for driving under the influence
cases, where the fee (as opposed to court costs) for a first
time offender can be as low as $900 for representation at a
preliminary hearing and attending the hearing to enter the
client into
the ARD (Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition) program.
Preliminary hearings are often charged on a flat fee
basis that typically range from $450 to $750.
Once
a case goes to the Court of Common Pleas (trial court), a fee
can be established. Sometimes
a flat fee can be established for cases where the disposition of
the case is predictable. Most
often, the fee will be an hourly fee with a required billing
retainer and a minimum fee to retain our services.
Unused portions of this retainer will be returned to the
client at the end of the representation.
In
all cases, the fee must be paid in advance of the preliminary
hearing, and if the case is held over (sent) to the Court of
Common Pleas, in advance of our entry of appearance (officially
telling the court that there is legal representation).
The
office has tried criminal cases to a jury in all the jurisdictions
where we practice and are familiar with appellate procedures.
In all cases, we explain both the procedure and
substantive law to the client so that he or she can make an
informed decision about the resolution of his or her case.
Cases
are taken in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.
Call
the office for a free initial telephone consultation regarding
your situation and the possible legal fees that may
result. (610-644-4545)
Please note that all the fees stated above
are guidelines and not quotes.
The free initial telephone consultation will more fully
explain how the fees are set and what you can expect to pay in
fees and costs. An informed
decision can then be reached on how to proceed. |
